Characterized by its swirly bokeh and sharp central focus, the Canon EF mount Petzval 85mm f/2.2 Lens from Lomography is an updated design of the first Petzval lens from 1840. Sharing much of the distinct image quality from the classic optic, as well as the unique brass exterior, this version has been updated for use on modern DSLRs and film SLRs and features Russian multi-coated glass to deliver a high degree of sharpness, contrast, and color saturation while maintaining the unique field curvature, vignetting, and shallow depth of field of the original lens.
Aperture settings are controlled using seven different Waterhouse stops, ranging from f/2.2 to f/16, and a geared rack focusing mechanism affords precise manual focus control as close as 3.3' away. Harking back to the origins of photography, this optic meshes an ethereal, soft, and distinctive image quality with contemporary handling to provide a unique option for portraiture and other creative applications.
Note: No electronic communication is possible between the camera and the lens. All operation is strictly manual. Automatic light metering is possible by shooting in aperture priority mode for almost all digital and film SLR camera bodies.
